Empire caught wind of a tweet that revealed Sinister and Exorcism of Emily Rose director Scott Derrickson has optioned the film rights to Drew Magary’s The Postmortal, known in the UK as “The End Specialist.”
Says the site, Magary’s book is set in the near future, “where a cure for aging is discovered and – after much political and moral debate – made available to people worldwide. Immortality, however, comes with its own unique problems, including evil green people, government euthanasia programs, a disturbing new religious cult, and other horrors.
“Our hero is John Farrell, a man who decides to take the vastly expensive treatment known as The Cure, which means he’s effectively immortal. At least, he’s protected from the ravages of natural aging, but he can still get sick and die, or be mortally wounded. And what of romance or love when you know you’re going to outlive your partners?”
