Warner Bros. Searching For “Lost Girls”

Published

on

Warner Bros. is in talks to acquired the Robert Kolker bestselling book “Lost Girls: An Unsolved American Mystery,” reports Deadline.

Published by Harper, the book takes on a still unsolved case on Long Island. Kevin McCormick is producing through his Langley Park banner with Dark Shadows producer David Kennedy. Set to write is Michael Werwie, who was awarded a Nicholl Fellowship for his script Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, And Vile.

That title is an apt description for this case, in which a murderer used the waterfront roadside on Long Island’s South Shore as the dumping ground for his murder victims, all of whom were escorts advertising on Craigslist and similar websites. It began with reports that a young woman named Shannan Gilbert was seen running through the upscale waterfront town of Oak Beach, screaming for her life before she turned up missing. When it becomes clear to Shannan’s mother, Mari Gilbert, that police weren’t trying hard to find her daughter, she raised a ruckus. A search of the wooded sandy roads in the area led to the discovery of four bodies. None of them was Gilbert, but each was a similarly pretty twentysomething escort who advertised on the web. The families demanded answers and were frustrated when evidence and potential suspects were being ignored. Eventually, Mari Gilbert’s relationship with the police chief evolved as she pressed for a recognition of the value of these troubled girls. When Gilbert’s daughter was finally located, it was a tragic ending, but it gave her mother closure. The killer is still at large.

Kolker covered the case for New York Magazine. Langley Park veep Rory Koslow is overseeing the project and Werwie is repped by UTA and Evolution. UTA repped the book as well.

‘MaXXXine’ – Mia Goth Takes Hollywood in New Image from Ti West’s Sequel

Published

One of this summer’s most hotly anticipated new movies is A24 and Ti West’s MaXXXine, a follow-up to X and Pearl that brings Mia Goth’s title character into the 1980s.

With her past catching up to her, Maxine attempts to make it big as a superstar in Hollywood, 1985. While you wait, check out a new image below courtesy of USA Today this week.

Releasing in theaters on July 5, 2024, MaXXXine is rated “R” for…

“Strong violence, gore, sexual content, graphic nudity, language and drug use.”

If you missed the official trailer, you can watch it right here.

Mia Goth stars alongside Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito and Kevin Bacon in MaXXXine.

Here’s the official plot synopsis from A24 this week: “In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break. But as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past.”

Last we saw Maxine in Ti West’s X (2022), she was the sole survivor of a massacre carried out by elderly couple Howard and Pearl in the Summer of ’79. Goth of course pulled double duty as the villain Pearl in that movie, who got her own origin story in Pearl (2022). Pearl and Maxine are different characters, but they share the common goal of wanting to be stars.

Will Maxine finally make it in Hollywood? Or will the demons of her past become her ultimate downfall? With the Night Stalker roaming free, we expect MaXXXine to get wild this summer.
