Danish one-woman black metal band Myrkur has released “Latvian Fegurð”, the second single from the upcoming debut EP, which comes out September 16th. The track reinforces the melodic, ethereal beauty-in-darkness stylings from the first single, “Nattens Barn”. I was hooked from the original single and actually pre-ordered the mint green/bone white vinyl from that alone. Now I’m doubly excited to receive it!
A short film was also released where Myrkur describes her approach and concepts:
Nature is a big part of the reason black metal even exists. And all types of pure music that comes from a pure place. The word ‘Myrkur’ means ‘darkness’ in Icelandic. The place where there are no boundaries, where no one can hurt me. And when I have sung the screams it, physically hurts but it feels like something is leaving my body. I can’t remember it afterwards.
