Growing up, something that I always liked doing was reading fairy tales, especially the darker ones. These tales always had some kind of moral lesson behind them, about how to be a better person and what not to do in certain situations. In these stories, failing to abide by these moralities was often met with harsh consequences, death often being the most charitable and kind option. These tales helped shape me and I look back upon them with great fondness and nostalgia.
That’s why I’m extremely excited for this! We’ve teamed up with Danish black metal musician Myrkur (aka Amalie Bruun) to bring you what I think is an exceptionally cool exclusive! Bruun has compiled a few of her favorite creepy Danish fairy tales and explained them for us, going into what makes them so personal for her.
Bruun explains:
I picked a few that are not the most obvious ones. There are more troll folklore coming from Norway than Denmark which I used to read, but since it should be from Denmark I did not pick these. I also quite enjoyed some Swedish stories fx. Skrap Skælving, which was written by Astrid Lindgren.
