It’s rare when a log line gets me excited, but clearly scribes Andrew Jay Cohen and Brendan O’Brien get it. The duo behind the hilarious comedy Neighbors is retiming with FOX for a new laughter, this time in the horror genre.
With Cohen directing, here’s what Thrill Ride is about:
“It takes place at a particularly cruel high school where bullying has become the norm. At Senior Night, the school rents out an amusement park for the entire senior class where everyone rides the rides and plays the games as much as they want with no lines and no rules. The only drawback: students start dying on the rides in elaborate ways. All the exits are sealed, and there is a killer on the loose turning all the rides into ways of punishing the bullies and the so called bad people at school. Kids from all different cliques have to band together to figure out who the killer is and how to stop them.”
It’s described in the vein of This Is the End and Scream, and shows serious promise. While it’s not a horror comedy, it sounds as if there’s comedy in the horror. That a huge difference, you see, as it shows they’re intent on making a movie in the vein of Final Destination, with the same kinetic energy and fun. This may just be my most anticipated project in development.
The script will be written by Peter Warren and Chernin Entertainment will produce with Cohen & O’Brien.
