Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones

Before I tear into it, I’d like to give The Marked Ones a modicum of recognition for being better than the fourth film. I don’t know if it came from a genuine desire to try and breathe new life into this ailing franchise, or if Microsoft’s check for that 87 minute-long Kinect ad finally cleared, giving them more freedom to be creative with it, but it was an improvement.
One of my biggest complaints with this sequel revolves around the scares. Actual time is spent setting them up, but the payoff was rarely worth it. Most were either “borrowed” — I may have even recognized a few from earlier Paranormal Activity films — or telegraphed before they had a chance to land.
