As Above, So Below
I’ve grown adept at identifying bad films. It usually only takes a trailer for me to gather enough information to know whether or not something is going to be worth my time. It’s a worthless talent, sure, but it’s all I’ve got.
Despite an intriguing title, eye-catching poster and the horrific potential of its setting — it’s set in the Paris Catacombs, a labyrinthine series of tunnels hundreds of miles long that rest underneath Paris — As Above, So Below is about as generic as they get. I assume their costume department was supplied by Party City, because the sets and costumes all look like they were purchased from the pages of a Halloween supplies catalog.
At one point, the group of folks we need to believe are scientists runs into a man wearing what looks like one of those Polyester Occultist costumes every one of us has seen at some point while trick or treating. I wouldn’t be surprised if the spooky sound effects we hear came from a CD of Halloween sounds.
It’s just so bad.
