Never have I seen the Internet community come together to attempt to decipher the plot of a series since “Lost”!
We’ve already shared with you not one, but two theories behind “American Horror Story: Hotel”, the fifth season of FX’s hit anthology series that will star Lady Gaga.
The first we came across was the H.H. Holmes theory, in which “Hotel” could be about America’s first serial killer and his “Murder Castle”. On Friday we then told you about the idea that “Hotel” could be about the Cecil Hotel in which 21-year-old Elise Lam was found dead in a water tank.
The latest is yet another Hollywood horror story that dates back to 1927.
Enter The Garden of Allah Hotel (thanks to Reddit user Trailkeep), also known as “Garden of Allah”, which opened in Hollywood in 1927 and was demolished in 1959 (that was a short life for a hotel, no?).
The hotel was home to many famous individuals from Ronald Reagan to Humphrey Bogart, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Eartha Kitt and even Groucho Marx.
In an article with “Time” magazine in 1959, Lucius Beebe said this about the hotel’s activity: “Nothing interrupted the continual tumult that was life at the Garden of Allah. Now and then the men in white came with a van and took somebody away, or bankruptcy or divorce or even jail claimed a participant in its strictly unstately sarabands. Nobody paid any mind.” Sort of crazy.
Interestingly enough, the reader noticed that at the very beginning of the latest episode, when Stanley, on the knife spinning board, pleads to Elsa for his life, says he had a brother who “works at the Garden of Allah” in Los Angeles. Showrunner and creator Ryan Murphy has already acknowledged that all of the seasons connect, so this helps support this theory.
Since there have been more than a handful of references to the Garden of Allah in “Freak Show”, it wouldn’t come as a shock to find out this is the basis of the fifth season. It’s also the more obvious of the three ideas since it was populated with many celebrities, as opposed to a few serial killers like the Cecil Hotel once housed.
Could we eventually see Jessica Lange’s Elsa Mars in a cameo gracing the famous halls of the Garden of Allah? We’ll find out before the show’s October return.
Do these images not scream “American Horror Story”? I think I see Elsa above…
