5 Creepy Real Places Horror Games Should Visit, Part 5

City of the Dead, North Ossetia

Creepy5_13

The name alone makes this eerie ghost town worth mentioning.

Dargavs has earned its name as the City of the Dead. It’s comprised of about a hundred homes which sit on a hill in North Ossetia, empty and forgotten, with the exception of the countless tortured spirits that have undoubtedly claimed them.

“Home” is a term I’m using lightly. These stone huts are more mausoleum than anything else. Sitting down for a “Roseanne” marathon after a day of vodka shots followed by the climbing of tall structures with nothing but a GoPro camera — or whatever it is Russians do these days — isn’t possible when there’s a ghost trying to steal your body from you.

A place like this is the stuff urban legends are made from. If I had grown up next to a place like Dargavs, you can bet there’d be kids betting each other to spend the night in one of the crypts. Locals have come up with their own legends about the place. Early on, folks genuinely believed a trip to Dargavs would end in your getting torn apart by furious murder ghosts.
