Final Escaped Mental Patient Runs With ‘Leatherface’
While pre-production ramps up for the May 18th shoot, yet another name has joined the growing cast of Leatherface, the prequel to Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
The film centers around a violent teen who one day will become Leatherface. He escapes from a mental hospital with three other inmates, kidnaps a young nurse and takes her on a road trip from hell. Along the way, they are pursued by an equally deranged lawman out for revenge.
Just yesterday we told you that British up-comer Sam Coleman has been cast as ‘Bud,’ one of boys who escape from the home for delinquent youths. The other two boys are Sam Strike, who was cast as ‘Jackson,’ with James Bloor starring as ‘Ike,’ a budding young maniac of his. One of them become Leatherface.
TheWrap is reporting that “Mr. Selfridge” actress Jessica Madsen has landed the role as the fourth and final escaped mental patient.
We also broke the news right here on Bloody that Stephen Dorff will play ‘Texas Ranger Hal Hartman’, a lawman described to us as a lean, mean Texas Ranger who has a vendetta against the teen boy who grows up to become Leatherface, while Angela Bettis was cast as Mother Sawyer.
Back on Halloween Bloody broke the news that Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, the duo behind the slasher masterpiece Inside (À l’intérieur), as well as Livide and the forthcoming Among the Living, will be helming Leatherface for Millienum and Lionsgate.
Leatherface is being produced by Christa Campbell and Lati Grobman (interview), alongside Carl Mazzocone after they successfully resurrected the franchise with the 2013 Texas Chainsaw 3D. Les Weldon is also a producer on the project, which is being executive produced by Millennium’s Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, John Thompson, Mark Gill and Beth Bruckner O’Brien.
Director David Robert Mitchell (It Follows) is back this summer with dinosaurs-in-suburbia mystery box movie The End of Oak Street, and tickets are on sale NOW.
To celebrate tickets being put up for grabs this morning, Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for The End of Oak Street along with a few new official posters.

Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor come face-to-face with a monstrous threat in The End of Oak Street, which looks like M. Night Shyamalan with retro-style Amblin vibes.
As Mitchell explained to Entertainment Weekly, inspirations for the film include Jurassic Park, The Twilight Zone, Poltergeist, The Valley of Gwangi, and M. Night Shyamalan’s Signs.
The End of Oak Street is set in the early 1980s…
In the film, “After a mysterious cosmic event rips Oak Street from suburbia and transports their neighborhood to someplace unknown, the Platt family soon discovers that their very survival depends on them sticking together as they navigate their now unrecognizable surroundings.”
Maisy Stella and Christian Convery also star.
The film is written and directed by David Robert Mitchell and produced by J.J. Abrams, Hannah Minghella, Jon Cohen, David Robert Mitchell, Matt Jackson and Tommy Harper. The executive producers are Chris Bender, Jake Weiner, Joanne Lee and Leeann Stonebreaker.
