“Golan the Insatiable” Quietly Arrived From Hell, Via FOX

Golan the Insatiable

When a demon from Hell arrives, I expect a louder bang that what FOX planned for “Golan the Insatiable.” I can only wonder if FOX is hoping the new series dies and goes away?

I was surprised last night to learn that FOX quietly premiered a brand new animated series, “Golan the Insatiable,” which is to follow the network’s history of great shows like “The Simpsons,” “Family Guy,” “American Dad” and more recently “Bob’s Burgers.”

I wonder if the low, low ratings of “Family Guy” had anything to do with the surprise drop, which took place last night just before the news.

The comedy is about a mighty godlord (Rob Riggle, 22 Jump Street) from an alternate dimension who arrives in Oak Grove, MN, where his only friend is a macabre, nine-year-old girl named Dylan (Aubrey Plaza, “Parks and Recreation”), who constantly urges him to wreak havoc on her town.

Among the storylines in the upcoming season are: Golan and Dylan hatch an evil scheme to kill spring before it even begins; Golan’s life is in danger when he sheds his skin in the wilderness; When Dylan is caught wetting the bed, Golan mocks her relentlessly to get in with the cool kids; Dylan and Golan adopt a diseased – covered turtle in hopes of poisoning the whole town in the Oak Grove Chili Eat Out; and Golan attends high school to get crowned Prom King.

Additional voice talent includes Ken Marino (“Childrens Hospital,” AXE COP), John DiMaggio (“Futurama”) and comedic actors Maria Bamford, Rachel Butera and Nick Rutherford.

“Golan the Insatiable” started as a late night 15-minute series on “Animation Domination” that was massaged into becoming a full 30-minute show.

While I don’t really like the original all that much, I really dug the debut episode and plan to stick around for however long it lasts. Hopefully it won’t be banished to Hell with all of FOX’s other failures.
