‘P.T.’ Inspired ‘Allison Road’ Hits Steam Greenlight

Published

Last month, not long after the last traces of Silent Hills had been wiped from existence, we were given a modicum of hope that something good might come from Konami’s bizarre and very public implosion. That hope came in the form of a horror game called Allison Road, which looked eerily similar to the unforgettable P.T. demo that had been used to announce Silent Hills.

The 6-person team that’s behind this promising game aren’t just looking to cash in on an ailing publisher that’s become alarmingly disconnected from their fans, but they are going to try and explore the potential of its universally acclaimed P.T. demo. It won’t be the Silent Hills Kojima and del Toro had in mind, and it doesn’t need to be.

The game’s reveal came at a time when it was guaranteed to get the most attention, and with that momentum still incredibly strong, they’ve begun pursuing the platforms Allison Road will come to.

Quite a lot of progress has been made just this week. The team took to their Facebook page to announce that they had submitted their application to Microsoft to get Allison Road on the Xbox One. PS4 is also being considered, but progress isn’t likely to be made on that until an issue with the developer’s current ISP contract is sorted out.

A campaign was also launched on Steam Greenlight, the gaming’s unofficial battlegrounds for aspiring game developers. Within a day, Allison Road had just about made it into the top 56 games on Steam Greenlight.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
