Pizza Hut Turns Delivery Box Into Home Projector

Pizza Hut is upping their game with a new concept that they’re calling the “Block Buster Box”, a way to combine food with entertainment in one package. Now, right off the bat I’m going to let you know that these are only being rolled out in Hong Kong. But that doesn’t change the fact that the concept, while flawed, is still pretty fascinating.

Here’s how it works: You order your pizza and it comes in one of four themed boxes. There’s the horror-filled “Slice Night”, “Anchovy Armageddon” for sci-fi fans, “Hot & Ready” for the romance lovers, and the action-packed “Fully Loaded”. When you get your box, you pop out a hole in the front, insert the provided lens, scan a QR code on the box to load the movie, and then put your phone on a stand inside the box to blow it up on your wall.

While the concept is very cool in theory, here are some major problems I can see happening:

  1. Your phone gets greasy from being inside a pizza box.
  2. The video quality is going to be awful without the best of circumstances. Even then, it’ll be mediocre at best.
  3. The sound is completely muffled because your video source is closed up inside a pizza box!
  4. Why use the box as a projector when nearly everyone these days has a TV that is the same size, if not larger, than what the box can create?
  5. Still, it’s a fun idea and I’d love to see what Pizza Hut has planned for it. Plus, getting a pizza in a horror-themed box? Score!
