New Film Festival to Put the B In CamBridge

Published

on

Known for it’s educational establishments & being a beautiful bit of Great Britain, you’d normally associate Cambridge with posh accents & a trip punting on the river.  That’s all about to change as the history city is about to get trashed & spray day glo with the inaugural Extreme B Movie Festival.

We are proud to announce the first ever Cambridge

B-Movie film festival. This festival is born from our love of gory cheesy B-movies from the funny to the extreme.

Our selection this year is a little on the wild side with a nice balance of new and old along with a healthy bucket or two of blood.

B-movies have existed all the way through film history from the early silent days right up to recent times. With films being made for little or no budget the team involved often find creative ways to achieve results, which adds a quality found nowhere else.

From eggboxes lining space ship corridors to extras in giant rubber suits, all these fabulous touches add pure class to any feature.

With many of these B-movies and grindhouse films no longer seeing the light of day in a mainstream cinema, it has become extremely hard to view these movies in the correct setting.

This is why small film festivals like this must continue to be supported.

The selection we have chosen to show all come with an extreme warning, with many films not having a UK certification we have taken it upon ourselves to classify this whole event as strictly ADULTS ONLY.

WARNING

THESE FILMS CONTAIN STRONG SCENES OF VIOLENCE, SEX, NUDITY, PUPPETS, CORPORATE MANSLAUGHTER, BLOOD, CHAINSAWS, GORE, JESUS, MARTIAL ARTS, 80’S COMPUTERS, MUCK, HITLER, SYNTH POP, EXPLICIT LANGUAGE, VIKINGS, INFLATABLE COCODILES, DINOSAURS, CONDOMS, PLASTICINE….

Take a look at the films screening from August 19 – 23 as well as the amazing poster for the event.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
