With the gothic horror romance Crimson Peak coming out on October 16th, he’s taken the opportunity to discuss the maze themed after the film, which will premiere at this year’s Halloween Horror Nights in Hollywood, CA. Del Toro expressed his excitement for the maze, calling it a, “…living trailer for the movie.”
Del Toro tells IGN:
The movie is a gothic romance and we always thought the beauty of it is that it’s creepy. It’s a creepy movie and it’s about a woman trapped in a house, in a terrible marriage basically, trying to escape the horrors of a house, lost in the middle of nowhere and I thought, “That sounds to me like a maze.” You could really recreate that experience in a maze and you can make it creepy and atmospheric and punctuated by scares, much like the movie but represent also the sort of old world craftsmanship of creating sets that are detailed and creepy but beautiful to look at.
