Man, the news surrounding the Prometheus sequel Alien: Paradise Lost has been insane as of late! The fever for learning everything possible about Ridley Scott’s next sci-fi/horror undertaking is reaching fever pitch as every scrap of information is being shoved under a microscope to see what can be gleaned.
One consequence of all this news is that people began to worry about Neill Blomkamp’s Alien, which is supposed to star Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn (although none of that is 100% confirmed). Fans are desperate to see an ending to the story of Ellen Ripley and this seemed to be the path that offered such a resolution. And though there are fears that this sequel is dead before even lifting off, Scott is now assuring us that it will happen and that he is going to be the producer.
Talking to AICN, Scott explained:
I’m producing [the sequel]. The design is for it to go out next, after this. This will go out first. It’s more associated with Ripley, it’s a completely different angle, it’s more of a sequel. I’m coming in from the back end. I’ve even got connections with Ripley [in this], but I’m not telling you what.
According to AICN, though this is worded strangely it means that Alien: Paradise Lost will be coming out first and will then be followed by Blomkamp’s Alien.
I’m personally beyond excited for these announcements. It’ll be amazing to see how they manage to connect these two storylines, especially considering the vast amount of time in between each story. Maybe we’ll see Dr. Shaw find herself in a lengthened hypersleep, just like Ripley?
