Capcom did a stellar job when they updated the beloved Gamecube remake of the original Resident Evil back in January, but I always felt like it was missing something to really bring it all together. Something itchy, tasty, like a Jill Sandwich, perhaps.
You may want to dust off those rose colored glasses, because you’re about to be hit with a wave of nostalgia that could only be the product of the glorious year that was 1996.
“It took me a long time to finish this mod mainly because there were more than 500 audio files to edit,” explains Bunny, the mod’s creator. “And the dialogues were already mixed with sound effects like footsteps, gunshots, enemies, etc. So at some point the editing process became tedious and I had to take breaks more often.”
It was clearly worth the effort. You can grab the mod over here.
Capcom has given Resident Evil fans a number of gifts this year, with more on the way in the form of the Resident Evil 0 remaster, the Resident Evil 2 remake, and even the Umbrella Corps spin-off, which looks like it could be a good time. Mods like this remind me how wonderfully cheesy this series once was, as opposed to the moldy cheese it’s unintentionally accrued in recent years.
After spending quite a lot of time with the Halo Master Chief Collection, and specifically the Halo 2 remake that — like the Halo remake that preceded it — lets players switch between the original game and the updated version with the press of a button. Is this feature something you might be interested in seeing Capcom try, possibly even with the upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake?
