Talking to BBC’s Newsbeat, producer Laurie MacDonald has stated that the upcoming Men In Black reboot that is currently in pre-production will get, “…a prominent woman in black in the fourth [film].” Additionally, the news that Will Smith, who was the star of the original three, wouldn’t be returning might’ve been somewhat premature. “Never count Will out,” MacDonald also told the site.
The first Men In Black film came out in 1997 and starred Smith as Agent J, a police officer recruited by Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) to assist in the policing and control of aliens on Planet Earth. A sequel came out in 2002 and a third film was released in 2012. MacDonald and her husband Walter Parkes are behind the new film, although they say they, “…are quite early on it.”
As for how they plan on entering a new film, Parkes explains that they saw, “…the first three [films] in retrospect as a bit of a trilogy. Now we are looking at a reinvention. But it’s a wonderful world to get back into.”
