‘Dying Light’ is Getting Meta-Levels So You Never Stop Playing
I greatly enjoyed the time I spent running, hacking and leaping through the zombie-infested streets of Dying Light, enough to max out my character’s three skill trees some time ago. The final perks were worth the effort, but in the relatively short amount of time I’ve spent with the game since reaching the cap, running and grappling infinitely just isn’t reason enough to keep me going. I need that carrot on a stick to motivate me to keep going.
I’m not the only player who’s hit the brick wall of no return on my investment, and Techland is looking to change this with the content update that’s coming in February with the Enhanced Edition and as a free, standalone update for current owners of the game.
The update will introduce Legendary Levels — a concept that completely changed Diablo III when Blizzard called them Paragon levels — which give maxed-out players such as myself a reason to get back to work when The Following releases on Feb 9 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
It’ll do this by effectively raising the level cap by an additional 250. Each new level earned improves core stats like health and damage, and accruing 25 of them will get you a new emblem or outfit.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78
In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).
Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.
While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.
The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.
Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.
We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
