I Dare You to Play ‘Dying Light’s Nightmare Mode
Techland has shared the third, and final, video in their video breakdown of the free enhancement update that’s expected to arrive at the same time as the game’s largest expansion to-date, Dying Light: The Following. The latest video focuses on the intimidating Nightmare Mode, which cranks up the difficulty considerably by taking everything about the hard mode — longer nights, stronger enemies, weakened senses — and adds stamina-depleting active skills and every time you die, you’ll lose all experience accrued above your current level.
It makes up for this by making those awesome gold weapons more common and it significantly increasing the amount of XP you get, especially when you play the game with friends, where it adds another 10% XP bonus for each in-game partner.
Techland also confirmed “certain community custom maps” will be coming to consoles. If you missed the other videos about this free update, they detailed the bounties and meta-levels.
Dying Light: The Following and the enhancement update hits the PC, PS4 and Xbox One on Feb 9.

Visit the site to join the mysterious creatures that lurk in the Irish forest as you observe a shelter. From the time the sun sets at 7:30 PM until it rises at 5:55 AM, four strangers — played by Dakota Fanning, Georgina Campbell, Oliver Finnegan, and Olwen Fouere — can be seen trapped inside.
You’ll find several interactive items. Click on the gramophone to set the mood with some spooky music. Tap on the birdcage to hear an ominous message from the parrot inside: “I’m going out, try not to die.” Press on the TV to watch clips from a fake reality show called Lair of Love. And if you tap on the window during the daytime … they’ll tap back.
There are also Easter eggs hidden at specific times. We’ve discovered three: a disorienting shot of Fanning’s character’s car at 5:52 PM, a closer view of the captives at 11:11 PM, and a glimpse of monitors at 12:46 AM. Let us know if you find any more in the comments…
