’10 Cloverfield Lane’ Trailer Fights to Get In…and Out

10 Cloverfield Lane

After exploding out of the gate, things have quieted down a bit in regards to then J.J. Abrams-produced 10 Cloverfield Lane, slated for release through Paramount Pictures on March 11, 2016.

Dan Trachtenberg directs this mystery film with Red State‘s John Goodman, The Thing‘s Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and John Gallagher Jr. starring.

When the news first broke, it was like lightning through the entertainment world as we all tried to figure out what exactly 10 Cloverfield Lane is.

Now, after various teasers and much research, the connection to the 2008 Cloverfield definitely feels more “blood relative” than an actual sequel. That’s not a bad thing, but it feels like some of the wind has left the sails. And with that, the buzz isn’t seething like it used to be.

As a Cloverfield sequel it looks like disappointment looms – but by removing any connection it actually looks to be a really solid, dark, and suspenseful thriller about three people in a bomb bunker during some sort of “attack.”

A new trailer has been released, this time really focusing on the plot. John Gallagher Jr. really makes the case that they want to be in there, while it appears that Mary Elizabeth Winstead just can’t shake the feeling that she’s being duped. What is out those doors, and what’s with the crazy footage of the entire house lighting up?

There’s a lot of the patent Abrams mystery box in the footage, which I can’t wait to open next month.
