‘Inner Chains’ is a Jaw-Droppingly Gorgeous Horror Game

Published

on

I can’t seem to get over how pretty Inner Chains is. Its biomechanical world is horrific, yet beautiful, with a painterly aesthetic that betrays its indie roots. What I’m trying to say is this game is sexy.

But AAA quality visuals aren’t cheap, and what we’ve seen thus far already looks noticeably better than the vast majority of horror games that have significantly more resources behind them. Despite this, Telepaths Tree is asking for a paltry $10,000 on Kickstarter so they can bring us a haunting virtual world “that resembles nothing you have ever encountered.”

“By tossing you into this dark, mysterious world, we want you to explore its history, discover its secrets one by one, and learn to use your knowledge against your opponents,” says Telepaths Tree CEO Tomasz Strzałkowski.

“Keep an eye on the hostile environment and take clues from the surrounding flora. Any information that you manage to gather and use will increase your chances of survival. Ultimately, it depends entirely on your own actions whether you thrive or die in this dangerous, alien place.”

Inner Chains is what my personal hero and future best friend Guillermo del Toro would call “eye protein.” It’s the sort of game that would pair wonderfully with virtual reality headsets like the Oculus Rift, which it’s being designed to support if when it reaches its funding goal. This will give early adopters the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in this handsome horror game.

Visuals are clearly an important part of this game, but there’s more to it than that. It aims to please us aurally too, and with an atmospheric soundtrack composed by Michał Staczkun, I’m confident it’ll accomplish that when it arrives on Steam later this year.

All of us here at Bloody Disgusting are deeply sad to learn that actress Daveigh Chase has passed away at just 35 years old. The news was first reported by TMZ this afternoon.

The outlet reports, “The actress’ boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, tells TMZ … Daveigh died Tuesday from meningitis and an infection in her blood, which caused her to have septic issues and led to her body shutting down.” The website’s report continues, “We’re told Daveigh had been admitted to a hospital in Los Angeles earlier this month because of malnutrition.”

Here in the horror world, a young Daveigh Chase memorably played Samara in Gore Verbinski’s 2002 horror movie The Ring, the American remake of the Japanese horror hit.

Far outside the horror world, Daveigh Chase voiced Lilo in the 2002 animated movie Lilo & Stitch, a character she continued to voice in various animated spinoff projects.

Chase also appeared as Samantha Darko in the 2001 classic Donnie Darko, later returning to play the sister of Donnie Darko in the 2009 spinoff movie titled S. Darko.

Daveigh Chase’s resume also includes roles on the TV shows “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” “Charmed,” “ER,” “Touched by an Angel,” “CSI,” “Cold Case,” and 32 episodes of “Big Love.”

Chase appeared in the films The Rats, Silence, Carolina, Beethoven’s 5th, Yellow, Little Red Wagon, Transference, Killer Crush, Jack Goes Home, and American Romance.

We send our deepest condolences to Daveigh Chase’s family, friends, and fans.
