‘Shutter Story’ Receives Steam Next Fest Demo, Kickstarter Campaign [Trailer]

Frostwood Interactive has today launched the Steam Next Fest demo for their upcoming investigative, hereditary-horror title Shutter Story. In addition, the devteam has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help with funding the project, which is slated to launch Q2 2026. The Kickstarter itself will conclude on March 21.

Described as a slow-burn tale of hereditary horror, Shutter Story sees players examine a haunted family’s photo album, as they uncover a multi-generational secret that has been handed down throughout the years. This chilling experience effortlessly juxtaposes tactile and immersive early 2000’s OS-style gameplay with exploratory first-person sequences in which past horrors bleed to the present.

Eli is convinced his family is being haunted. At first you don’t believe him, but then he shows you the photos. As a budding image editor, that’s where you come in.

Armed with the latest SpectralAware™ software, you must analyse, manipulate and edit photos and video clips to unmask the horrors lying hidden in plain sight – then sort and categorise all traces of the paranormal. Is it an Apparition or a Spectral Form? An Impossible Event or a Demonic Entity? Each category has its own distinct identifying characteristics, for which the detailed in-game handbook will become indispensable.

To do so, you’ll need to consult an exhaustive manual detailing every type of anomaly to classify your observations in the right categories. You’ll need to be smart about it, as Eli’s family’s fate depends on how well you do your job. Between your desktop investigations, you’ll explore Eli’s house from a first-person perspective as the horror begins to unfold around you. As you piece together the family history, you’ll learn the true reason behind the hauntings – inherited and passed down through generations.

As for the Kickstarter, a number of pricing tiers are available, each with their own rewards. Those include copies of the game, the digital soundtrack, a behind-the-scenes PDF, and the option to appear in the in-game guidebook. Stretch goals include additional in-game photos, voice overs and translations.
