Catch Buggy Madness in the Third ‘Dying Light’ Dev Tools Contest

Published

I have a feeling we’re about to see Dying Light get flooded by a great many Mario Kart inspired creations, courtesy of a new content update that rolled out earlier this week making it possible for everyone to build their custom maps around the dune buggies that were introduced in The Following.

And yes, I really do mean everyone. The expansion is not required to access this content among the existing Developers Tools, including a nifty option for modifying the buggy’s driving system, if you’re looking to design something for PvP.

But wait, there’s more. From now until June 19, Techland wants to see what your buggy-based creations, which you can submit over here so they can reward the makers of “the most creative, enjoyable, and high-quality maps” with gaming gear provided by Razer.

The main prize includes Razer’s BlackWidow X Chroma (keyboard), DeathAdder Chroma (mouse) and Kraken 7.1 Chroma (headset). Two runners-up will get the keyboard. If you’re unfamiliar with Razer’s products, they’re pretty great. I’ve owned the keyboard they’re offering for a few months now, and two of my all-time favorite gaming mice were both Razer products.

One day, I’m going to take home the Razer Blade. It’s just so beautiful.

Oh, and there’s a chance we’ll be hearing from Dying Light 2 in the near-ish future. I hope it has motorbikes you can equip with dual chainsaws. I don’t care if it’s already been done, an idea that magical is absolutely worth repeating.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
