Some of our favorite horror movies were never given toys either at the time of release or in the years since, which means we’ve never gotten to play with characters like Dr. Dan Challis, Burt Gummer, or the kids from The Monster Squad. But with a little imagination, we can change that…
Artist Christoper Tupa recently began creating vintage, ’80s-style ads for movie toys that don’t actually exist, using his imagination and art skills to whip up faux figures for classic films like The Neverending Story and Cobra. The retro art, which I first spotted over on Tupa’s Instagram, made me think of horror movies that would’ve made for awesome toy lines back in the ’80s, and so I reached out to the artist in the hopes that he’d be up for collaborating on a Bloody Disgusting Exclusive collection of faux toy ads based entirely on horror films.
Tupa, as you’re about to see, went above and beyond the call of duty.
Films like Critters, Halloween 3, The Descent, and Tremors get the retro toy treatment as part of this fun collaboration, and these period-authentic faux ads are sure to make you wish you lived in the world that exists inside Chris Tupa’s wonderful brain. Not only did he create action figures for more than 10 different horror movies but also playsets, puppets, and even vehicles!
