Something that many of us forget is that the actors that we know and love who portray our favorite heroes and our most dreaded villains often have families of their own. For the holidays, they often get together with their loved ones and enjoy the occasion to separate from their Hollywood life. For example, I used to hang out with someone whose uncle is Paul Giamatti. She explained that he loves the holidays and getting the chance to spend time with people who don’t care that he’s an actor. To them, he’s just one of the family.
That’s why I adored this little story that popped up on Imgur where user Asshatsask explained how his wife’s uncle is Ken Kirzinger, the guy who played Jason Voorhees in Freddy vs. Jason. Asshatsask’s son Hank is, “…completely terrified of the movies [but] he loves his uncle Ken.” That’s why he dressed up as Jason for Halloween and had his parent’s send a picture to “Uncle Ken”. Kirzinger realized that you don’t mess with a kid that is wielding a machete, so he put on a Jason mask and pulled out his Swiss Army Knife and sent back a picture saying that he lost his machete.
It’s one of those adorable moments that really makes me proud to be a horror fan. Sure, we may love gore, violence and all things scary but that doesn’t mean we can’t care for our family or be genuinely good folk.
Good on you, Ken. Keep it up and maybe one day little Hank will be up for watching the series without getting too scared!
