We Totally Want to Play with These Awesome ‘Kong: Skull Island’ Toys
The biggest Kong EVER is headed to the toy shelf.
This year’s Toy Fair takes over the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York from February 18th through the 21st, and we cannot wait to see all the new horror toys and collectibles that are going to be shown off at the event. We expect companies like NECA and Funko to impress the hell out of us, as they always do, and we’ve already got your first little sneak peek today.
We thank Idle Hands for the below images of Lanard’s first wave of Kong: Skull Island figures, set to hit toy shelves next month – the film arrives in theaters on March 10th, so that gives you plenty of time to play before Kong tears up the big screen once more. The wave of toys, subtitled “Battle for Survival: Creature Contact,” includes all sorts of vehicle playsets such as a jeep, a helicopter, and a boat, and most of the sets come with cool monster toys depicting everything from a Dino Monster to a massive spider. Looks like the film will be HEAVY on the creatures.
Coolest of all, the wave will be highlight by a gargantuan 18″ poseable “mega-figure” of the new Kong, which absolutely towers over the rest of the toys in the collection. We kinda need it.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78
In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).
Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.
While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.
The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.
Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.
We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
