For the tech community, the development of A.I. seems to be the ultimate ambition and noble pursuit. For filmmakers, on the other hand, A.I. presents an irresistible opportunity for high-concept horror. Because what’s scarier than losing control of your own creation? Your creation coming after you, that’s what!
Enter Federico D’Alessandro‘s TAU, a new horror film produced by David S. Goyer (Blade, The Dark Knight) and starring Maika Monroe (It Follows, The Guest) and Ed Skrein (Alita: Battle Angel, Deadpool).
In TAU, Monroe plays Julia, a “street smart” girl who becomes captive inside a “Smart” house developed by the enigmatic Alex (Skrein) that is run by an advanced artificial intelligence called, you guessed it, “TAU”.
As you can see from the first image we’re premiering below, every wall of the house is lined with screens that can visually transform the environment at a moment’s notice. While we’re not sure how this plays into the film’s overall plot, it looks like it will make for a unique and stylish film.
TAU is written by Noga Landau, whose screenplay for the film made The Blacklist. Landau’s resume otherwise is relatively short with a couple episodes of SyFy’s “The Magicians” and a TV movie called “The Haunted” to his name.
TAU is currently in post-production.
