Dating back to the third season, Kathy Bates has been a mainstay on the “American Horror Story” team. In fact, her performances in seasons such as “Freak Show” and “Roanoke” were a large part of why I kept watching.
Sadly, she will not be back for Season 7.
In an exhaustive article about “American Horror Story: Cult” this week, THR noted that Bates had a scheduling conflict with her upcoming Netflix series “Disjointed.” They’ve been able to confirm that she therefore won’t be appearing in the new season.

Evan Peters will be playing a character named Kai, while Sarah Paulson will also return as new character Ally. The two characters will have “a love story for the ages.”
The cast also includes Frances Conroy, Lena Dunham, Billy Eichner, Billie Lourd, Cheyenne Jackson, Adina Porter, Alison Pill, Colton Haynes, Mare Winningham and Leslie Grossman.
