Folk Horror ‘Dogged’ is Lurking on DVD and Digital July 9th

Published

on

UK folk horror film Dogged is gearing up for a DVD (region 2) and Digital release on July 9th. The film is the directorial debut from Richard Rowntree, a name you may not be familiar with but have more than likely seen his work at some point in the past. Rowntree has been part of the art department on a number of projects over the last decade including Penny Dreadful, Game of Thrones and Ex Machina. Over the last few years Rowntree has started directing shorts during his art gigs and with Dogged he steps it up the features game.

By all accounts, it’s worthwhile debut. Reviews to this point have been quite positive and if you search the hashtag #Dogged on Twitter you’ll find plenty of praise for the film. Check out the trailer below and see if your interest is peaked.

Synopsis:
Dogged is the debut feature film from director Richard Rowntree, a disturbing folk horror film which taps into our primal fear of what lurks in the woods. When ten-year-old Megan Lancaster meets a grizzly and untimely end, Sam is forced to return to the remote tidal island where he grew up to attend the funeral. A testing relationship with his disconnected parents, a reunion with his estranged girlfriend Rachel, and a cryptic message from the island’s doctor force Sam to investigate the events leading up to Megan’s tragic death. The truth is far more shocking and unbelievable than Sam wants to acknowledge, and his life begins to spiral out of control in a macabre descent of paranoia. Sam must race against tide and time to expose the seedy underbelly of the island, and to save the lives of those he loves.

Dogged is available now for pre-order from Amazon UK. No word yet on when it will receive a North American DVD release.
