In spite of the failed attempt by Paramount to get a sequel off the ground, and the fact that it reminds people (rightfully so) of Left 4 Dead, Saber Interactive’s World War Z did rather well for itself a week after its release.
Publisher Focus Home Interactive and developer Saber Interactive announced that the title has sold more than one million units across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in its first week of launch.
“We are humbled and thrilled by the immense success so far of World War Z, especially on PC thanks to the tremendous support of the Epic Games Store,” said Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch in a press release. “Moving forward, we’ll continue to expand the game and its community with new improvements, stability updates, and bonus gameplay content, beginning very soon with a special new mission for the Tokyo episode.”
While the success of the game might not spur Paramount to take another crack at that sequel, it does bode well for the Epic Games Store, given its small but growing library of exclusives. Plus, it’ll tide us over until we get more info on Turtle Rock Studios’ recently-announced spiritual successor, Back 4 Blood.
Do check out Neil’s take on the game, which “entertains and enthralls”, despite its short length.
