[Horror Queers Podcast] Celebrating Don Mancini and Jennifer Tilly’s Weird, Hilarious ‘Seed Of Chucky’

Seed of Chucky - Glen

Cum on Tilly

After a cross-continental foreign film extravaganza, the Horror Queers kicked off the Summer of Franchises last week with an examination of the original Final Destination film.

For our 25th episode (!), Trace and I are going Hollywood with a discussion of Don Mancini’s Seed Of Chucky (2004) and we’ve got special guest (and former Bloody contributor) Chris Eggertsen along for the Britney Spears-killing joyride.

In the fifth entry in the killer doll franchise, Chucky (voiced by Brad Dourif) and Tiffany (voiced by Jennifer Tilly) are introduced to their child, Glen/Glenda (voiced by Billy Boyd). The politics of Glen/Glenda’s sexuality are a touch iffy, but the comedy – including a plot to kidnap and impregnate actress Jennifer Tilly – clearly demonstrates how well Tilly and Mancini get along in real life.

We also touch on the film’s great deaths, praise John Waters and try to wrap our heads around the convoluted history of the S Club 7 television series.

Episode 25 – Seed Of Chucky (2004) feat. Chris Eggertsen

In celebration of the second week of the Summer of Franchises, Joe, Trace and special guest Chris Eggertsen are headed to Romania…er…”Hollywood” to check out the fifth Chucky film.

Chris and Joe gang up on Trace in a heated argument about what constitutes the “Big” horror franchises; they discuss out and proud gay director Don Mancini’s role shepherding the franchise for 30+ years, and why Jennifer Tilly’s autobiography should be called “Gaslighting.”

Also on the table: pronunciations of “Redman,” a supersized overview of S Club 7’s history and, naturally, a detailed discussion of the titular “seed”…in all of its various forms.

Cross out Seed Of Chucky!

Coming up Wednesday: Just in time for Canada Day (July 1st), we’re wolfing out with a discussion of one of the best coming of age horror films, Ginger Snaps!
