When the Screaming Starts is the perfect combination of humor and horror. It’s Shaun of the Dead meets Spinal Tap. Fangoria’s Editor-in-Chief Phil Nobile Jr. raved that When the Screaming Starts “does for serial killers what What We Do In the Shadows did for vampires.”

Directed by Conor BoruWhen the Screaming Starts follows struggling journalist turned filmmaker Norman, who finds himself face-to-face with aspiring serial killer Aidan Mendle. When Norman is invited to follow Aidan on his journey, he thinks he’s finally landed his big break. But as Aidan and his newly recruited murder cult embark on a blood-soaked rampage, Norman’s dream of becoming a renowned documentary filmmaker turns into a nightmare.

The film was co-written by Boru and lead actor Ed Hartland, who previously collaborated on several shorts. Hartland stars as Aidan, the not-so-charismatic leader of the family; Jared Rogers as ambitious filmmaker Norman; Kaitlyn Reynell as Aidan’s girlfriend and literal partner in crime, Claire; and Octavia Gilmore as Amy, one of the family’s first and finest recruits.

This bloody hilarious mockumentary lands on 4K UHD from Terror Vision with a new HDR10+ grade supervised by Boru, a 5.1 audio mix on the Blu-ray, and packed with extras.

Special Features include…

  • Commentary w/ Conor Buro and Ed Hartland
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Making Of Documentary
  • Behind the Scenes Interviews From The Set
  • Music Video: Cannibal Death March
  • Newly Created Captions

The horror-comedy has been featured at acclaimed horror festivals around the world including Popcorn Frights, Panic Fest, Telluride Horror Show, and Grimmfest. The film also was named Best Sci-fi/Horror Feature at the 2022 London Independent Film Festival.

When the Screaming Starts is currently sitting at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, with Dread Central exclaiming, “When the Screaming Starts is a laugh-out-loud funny dark comedy, and the film breathes a lot of life back into the mockumentary subgenre.”

Screen Zealots declared it “a clever, distressing serial killer mockumentary that offers a piercing commentary on the world we live in,” further adding that “it’s also bloody hilarious.”

“Taking the fandom of true crime and turning it into a Charles Manson-inspired comedy sounds risky, but writer/director Conor Boru finds an interesting mix of dark humor, gore, and social commentary to make When the Screaming Starts enjoyable,” writes Nightmarish Conjurings.

Scariest Things hypes, “When the Screaming Starts goes from a deadpan comedy to a full-blown horror film with a twist that will satisfy the most jaded fan,” while Flickering Myth adds: “Delivering fully on the potential of its premise, this witty, stylistically sharp mock-doc marks the arrival of a talented filmmaking voice in Conor Boru.”

The film was produced by Boru, Hartland, and Rogers along with Dom Lenoir. Executive Producers include Gilmore, Yasen Atour, and Kavé Niku.

ollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story

The SCREAMBOX Original documentary Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story is now streaming on SCREAMBOX, and it’s next coming to VHS!

A limited edition of only 50 copies worldwide, the VHS copies of the Englund documentary will go up for grabs on Saturday, April 27 at 12pm EST on Lunchmeat’s official website.

Josh Schafer of Lunchmeat explains, “With so many of Englund’s works being seen and familiarized on videotape, it only felt right to offer fans and collectors the opportunity to experience this fantastic doc on VHS. We all know the Freddy movies just feel different on videocassette, and we wanted to bring that feel to this film for those who want it.”

“Since first donning a tattered fedora and a glove of eviscerating blades in 1984, Robert Englund has become a beloved horror icon. His portrayal of Freddy Krueger is without doubt a moment as visceral to the horror genre as Chaney’s werewolf or Karloff’s groundbreaking realization of Frankenstein’s monster. However, few realize the depths of Englund’s true power as a character actor away from the latex mask and iconic red and green sweater.

“A classically trained actor and director, Robert Englund has become one of the most revolutionary horror icons of our generation.. This unique and intimate portrait captures the man behind the glove and features interviews with Englund and his wife Nancy, Lin Shaye, Eli Roth, Tony Todd, Heather Langenkamp, and more.

“This is the quintessential documentary on the man who didn’t just bring Freddy Krueger to horrific and historic life on-screen and beyond, but has created a fantastic career as an elite actor and entertainer.”

Selling for $30, the VHS is presented in native widescreen format & duplicated in NTSC, housed in full-color slipcase and pressed on black videocassettes with silver foil face and side labels.

The VHS release is presented in partnership with Cineverse, Bloody Disgusting, and Screambox, in association with Dead Mouse Productions and Cult Screenings U.K.
