Okay, so right away I’m going to explain that Hammerhead made its debut a year ago at the Japan Animator Expo. However, it’s only recently surged into popularity, which is how I heard about it and I feel like a lot of you might not have seen it, so I want to share it!
Written and directed by Ōtarō Maijō (“Biorg Trinity”) with art direction from Mahiro Maeda (“One Punch Man”, “Neon Genesis Evangelion”), the short comes from the perspective of a young woman whose father suffered a horrible attack that somehow turned him into a man with superhero abilities. However, with this power came the burden that he couldn’t be beaten, which became his obsession. All he wanted was to find peace through death.
However, some wishes can’t come true and some burdens have to be shouldered for the sake of those we love.
