“Ash vs. Evil Dead” Season 3 Will Explain Why Ash is the Chosen One

Filming on the third season of “Ash vs. Evil Dead” wrapped this past June, and Bruce Campbell has been teasing that the new episodes are going to be nothing short of a game-changer for the franchise. He promises that “nothing will ever be the same” after the finale, which has certainly whet our appetite.

Of course, we don’t yet have any idea what he’s referring to, but Campbell has been dropping little tidbits here and there. We won’t spoil it for those who don’t want to know, but he recently revealed a major detail that may or may not have something to do with the shocker of a finale.

What else can we expect from the forthcoming third season? Speaking with Dread Central this week, Campbell noted that Ash’s origins as a hero will be explored. As Ash learned in the original trilogy, he was depicted as the chosen one in the Book of the Dead, always destined to save the Earth from the Deadites.

But why?

The mythology’s going to kick in now, which will give us all an idea of why Ash was chosen – this average idiot… this fool was written of in an ancient book,” Campbell teased. “So Season 3 is where it all will come to a head – the ultimate mettle of the average man will be tested by these demonic forces, and if man fails, then evil will rule the earth – those are the stakes.”

“Ash vs. Evil Dead” Season 3 will either premiere this Fall or early 2018.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
