TNT Just Ordered “Snowpiercer” to Series!
“Snowpiercer” has been ordered to series at TNT, Variety reports.
The series is based on the Bong Joon Ho’s 2013 film of the same name and stars Jennifer Connelly (Dark City, The Day the Earth Stood Still), Daveed Diggs, Mickey Sumner, Susan Park, Benjamin Haigh (The Conjuring 2), Sasha Frolova, Katie McGuinness (“Roots”), Alison Wright (“The Americans”), Annalise Basso (Ouija: Origin of Evil, Oculus, Captain Fantastic), Sam Otto, Roberto Urbina, Sheila Vand, and Lena Hall.
The hourlong drama pilot, directed by Doctor Strange, Sinister, and Exorcism of Emily Rose helmer Scott Derrickson, explores class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival.
Set seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, the series centers on the remnants of humanity, who inhabit a gigantic, perpetually-moving train that circles the globe. As it does, issues of class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival are raised.
“I’m a personal fan of Bong Joon Ho’s epic film, and jumped at the chance to honor his original vision, yet expand upon the world and characters with a diverse, award-winning cast,” said Sarah Aubrey, executive vice president of original programming for TNT. “Science fiction is the perfect genre to examine issues of race, class, gender and natural resources with thought-provoking and exciting storytelling. ‘Snowpiercer’ will explore those relevant issues while embarking on a wild, action-filled ride.”
“Snowpiercer” is a co-production of Tomorrow Studios and Turner’s Studio T, along with CJ Entertainment. The pilot was directed by Scott Derrickson and was written by Josh Friedman. The series is executive produced by Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements, and the original film’s Bong Joon Ho, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun and Dooho Choi.
Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is reteaming with Starz on a TV series adaptation of supernatural crime graphic novel Bone Parish, Deadline reports.
Diane Ademu-John (Dune: Prophecy) and Declan de Barra (The Witcher: Blood Origin) will co-showrun the project and executive produce.
The show’s logline reads: “In the dark underworld of New Orleans, the Winters family builds an empire around a powerful new drug—crafted from the ashes of the dead—that grants users vivid, haunting visions of the past. But as demand surges, rival factions, deadly secrets, and supernatural forces close in, pulling them deeper into a violent and inescapable nightmare of crime, horror, and family legacy.”
The graphic novel by writer Cullen Bunn (The Empty Man) and artist Jonas Scharf was published by BOOM! Studios; the publisher’s Stephen Christy and Mette Norkjaer will executive produce.
“I’ve always been drawn to stories that break the mold, and Bone Parish does exactly that. It takes crime, family, and power, and mixes it with something dark and supernatural, in a way that feels fresh. Exploring what happens when the world of the living gets mixed up with the world of the dead, this story has incredible depth, and we’re building a series that’s going to keep audiences locked in from the first episode,” Jackson said in a statement.
“We love going on new journeys with Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson, and this one is unlike anything we’ve done before: a world steeped in horror and the supernatural, but still grounded in the family and crime storytelling our audience can’t get enough of. It’s a wild, bold swing, and exactly the kind of risk we want to be taking,” said Kathryn Busby, President, Original Programming at Starz.
