“Stranger Things” and “American Horror Story: Cult” Represent Horror With Emmy Nominations

Horror has notoriously always been something of a blind spot for awards shows, but both “Stranger Things” and “American Horror Story” typically manage to break through and proudly represent the genre at such ceremonies. The 2018 Emmy Awards nominations were just announced and not surprisingly, both shows are up for awards.

  • Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series – Chapter 9, “The Gate”
  • Outstanding Special Visual Effects – Chapter 9, “The Gate”
  • Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series
  • Outstanding Cinematography for a Single Camera Series – Chapter 1, “Mad Max”
  • Outstanding Single Camera Editing for a Drama Series – Chapter 9, “The Gate”
  • Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series – Chapter 8, “The Mind Flayer”
  • Outstanding Music Supervision – “Trick or Treat, Freak”

“American Horror Story: Cult” isn’t far behind with several of its own noms…

  • Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie – Sarah Paulson

  • Outstanding Sound Editing – “Great Again”
  • Outstanding Hairstyling for a Limited Series or Movie

Also worth noting that the revival of David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks” landed a handful of nominations, including Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series and Outstanding Directing.

The 70th annual Emmys will air on September 17.
