Confirmed: Netflix is Rebooting “Unsolved Mysteries”!

UPDATE: This rumor has been CONFIRMED by Deadline!

Thanks to its arrival on streaming platforms, the classic Robert Stack-hosted “Unsolved Mysteries” experienced something of a renaissance back in 2017, and at the time, creators John Cosgrove and Terry Dunn Meurer had noted (during a Reddit AMA session) that they were pitching networks on the idea of making brand new episodes of the show.

We are actively talking to a couple of broadcasters who have shown interest, and we’re very optimistic that we’ll have something by way of new episodes by the end of the year,” Cosgrove subsequently told Decider in 2017. “It’s too early to go into much detail, but we’ve had our research producers look into possible stories and they’ve found some excellent ones which can be ready to go quickly.”

Now, via Reddit/Unsolved Mysteries, there’s a rumor going around this week that Netflix will be the home of that planned “Unsolved Mysteries” revival! Mind you, none of this is confirmed at this time, but an interesting listing on Production Bulletin sure does seem to suggest that new episodes are being filmed for Netflix as early as next month.

Terry Dunn Meurer is listed as one of the show’s producers, with “Stranger Things” producer Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment also attached. The listing details, “The series reboot uses re-enactments and interviews to retell the circumstances of, well, mysteries that are unsolved. Covering crimes, tales of lost love, unexplained history and paranormal events, viewers are encouraged to call in with information that might solve the mystery.”

“Unsolved Mysteries” was first revived by Spike in 2008, the reboot hosted by Dennis Farina.

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.
