Fresh off directing this year’s Crawl, Alexandre Aja (High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes) has set up his next project: an adaptation of Tomie, the manga series from Junji Ito!

Aja will both direct and executive produce the series for the Quibi platform.

Based on the cult hit manga, Tomie is the story of what happens when a beautiful high school girl goes missing and pieces of her body are discovered scattered around a small town. But what starts out as a murder mystery turns into something even more horrific.

The project hails from Sony Pictures Television and Universal Content Productions.

David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (The Conjuring 2, Aquaman) is writing and executive producing, with Hiroki Shirota on board as co-producer.

First published in 1987, Junji Ito’s Tomie has been adaptated in Japan in the form of both a live-action film series and an anthology TV series that was also edited into a film.

Quibi is a mobile-first media technology platform bringing together the best of Silicon Valley and Hollywood. Headquartered in Los Angeles, Quibi is the first entertainment platform built for easy, on-the-go mobile viewing, allowing today’s leading studios and creative talent to tell original stories in an entirely new way.
