“American Horror Story” creator Ryan Murphy re-teams with series mainstay Sarah Paulson to tell a new kind of horror story with “Ratched,” coming to Netflix in September.

The 8-episode series tells the origin story of iconic One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest villain Nurse Mildred Ratched, inviting us to “meet the woman before the monster.”

The “suspenseful drama” premieres September 18, and the official trailer has arrived today. As we expected based on the first images that we shared just last week, this series looks to essentially be an unofficial new season of “American Horror Story,” promising to be a tasty treat that will hold fans of the FX series over until the tenth season arrives next year.

“In 1947, Mildred arrives in Northern California to seek employment at a leading psychiatric hospital where new and unsettling experiments have begun on the human mind. On a clandestine mission, Mildred presents herself as the perfect image of what a dedicated nurse should be, but the wheels are always turning and as she begins to infiltrate the mental health care system and those within it, Mildred’s stylish exterior belies a growing darkness that has long been smoldering within, revealing that true monsters are made, not born.”

George Wilburn.
