As Mystery, Inc. prepares to get back in business for Netflix‘s upcoming “Scooby-Doo” live-action series, Deadline reports that it has found its Daphne in Scream 7 and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 actor Mckenna Grace.
The streamer gave an eight-episode series order last year.
The modern reimagining will uncover how everyone’s favorite mystery-solving kids and their beloved dog first teamed up to crack the haunting case that started it all.
In the series, “During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
Greg Berlanti (“Riverdale,” “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”) will executive produce with Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman via Berlanti Productions and its overall deal with Warner Bros. Television.
Josh Appelbaum (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) and Scott Rosenberg (Venom, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) will serve as showrunners and writers.
Launched by Hanna-Barbera with the 1969 animated series “Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!,” Scooby-Doo has remained one of pop culture’s most recognizable characters with more than a dozen animated series, three theatrical films, and more.
Expect the Mystery, Inc. bunch to get rounded out as casting continues.
In the meantime, Mckenna Grace is keeping busy in the genre space. In addition to Scream 7, where Grace is also providing vocals for an Ice Nine Kills original song on the film’s soundtrack, she’ll next be seen in the upcoming horror-comedy satire Slanted.
