It was back in September of last year that the four-episode series “Marvel Zombies” took a bite out of Disney+, but will we be getting a second season of the animated series?
Chatting with The Escape Pod this week, Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Television and Animation Brad Winderbaum spilled the beans that “Marvel Zombies” Season 2 is on the way!
“I don’t think it’s a spoiler, but I saw the first animatic of the first episode of Marvel Zombies Season 2,” Winderbaum teased during his conversation with The Escape Pod.
He adds, “It was crazy. I can’t say anything about it, but it delivers not just on zombies, but also on an MCU thing that has never really happened before that we’re very excited to do.”
In 2021, Disney+ series “What If…?” teased the horror possibilities from Marvel Studios with the introduction of “Marvel Zombies” in a one-off episode that turned our favorite superheroes into the undead. Based on the comic run of the same name that sees an alternate universe where various heroes get infected, that episode spawned the “Marvel Zombies” spinoff series.
In the animated horror series, “After the Avengers are overtaken by a zombie plague, a desperate group of survivors discover the key to bringing an end to the super-powered undead, racing across a dystopian landscape and risking life and limb to save their world.”
“Marvel Zombies” is created by Bryan Andrews and Zeb Wells.
The first season featured the voices of Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Tessa Thompson, Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Hailee Steinfeld, Wyatt Russell, Randall Park, Iman Vellani, and Dominique Thorne.
Daniel Kurland wrote in his Season 1 review for Bloody Disgusting, “Marvel’s foray into TV-MA animated storytelling is a gory, gorgeous success that descends the MCU’s finest into an unpredictable undead apocalypse.” Daniel added, “This is four episodes of gonzo, out of control brain-chomping, limb-ripping, body-blasting carnage that turns Marvel’s standard superpowered theatrics into a disturbing dystopia. It’s an entertaining binge-watch that’s hopefully not the last that audiences see of this creepy corner of the MCU.”
