‘The Boys’ Spinoff ‘Gen V’ Canceled After 2 Seasons; Prequel Series ‘Vought Rising’ Set for 2027

In addition to “The Boys” coming to an end, so too has its spinoff, “Gen V” — but the Vought Cinematic Universe will live on with “Vought Rising.”

Tying directly into the events of “The Boys,” “Gen V” premiered in 2023 and returned for a second season in September. It will not be renewed for a third season.

The series was set at Godolkin University, a prestigious superhero college where students train to be the next generation of heroes. When a group of young supes discover that something sinister is going on at the school, they have to decide whether they’ll be the heroes or the villains of their stories.

Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Asa Germann, Sean Patrick Thomas, Hamish Linklater, and the late Chance Perdomo starred.

“While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the ‘Gen V’ characters’ stories in ‘The Boys’ Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon,” said executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg. “You’ll see them again.”

“The Boys” prequel series “Vought Rising” recently wrapped production and is set to launch in 2027 on Prime Video.

Set in 1950, it will explore the origins of Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy and Aya Cash’s Stormfront. Elizabeth Posey, Will Hochma, and Mason Dye also star.

The Boys: Mexico” also remains in active development. Hailing from Blue Beetle scribe Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, the Mexico-set offshoot was announced back in 2023.

The Vought Cinematic Universe is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios with Kripke Enterprises, Original Film, and Point Grey Pictures.
