If you’re like me, you’ve probably been wondering just what Daybreak Games was planning to do once they split their H1Z1 game in two. The core game, H1Z1, has continued on through Early Access, and even made its way onto the PS4. Meanwhile, the more zombie-focused shooter, Just Survive, has been barely mentioned. And now we know why.
On Just Survive‘s official site, the devs have announced that they’re retiring the game. The letter states that while there was plenty of promise and loyalty from its fans, there just weren’t enough people playing the game to maintain its development. The main H1Z1 game will not be affected by the shuttering of Just Survive.
“After careful consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to sunset Just Survive on Wednesday, October 24 at 11am PT (7pm UK time). The excitement of the game’s promise was palpable and its loyal community is still full of ideas for its future. Unfortunately, we are no longer in a position to fulfill its greatness and the current population of the game makes it untenable to maintain.”
The post goes on to say that Steam purchases and in-game transactions have already been suspended, and that the servers will go offline on October 24, 2018. If anyone has made a purchase of the game recently, or purchased any of the in-game items, you may be entitled to a refund. If so, Daybreak Games encourages players to contact Steam to see what can be done.
According to Steam Charts, which tracks the number of players that have logged into the game, Just Survive currently averages just over 540 users. Compare that to H1Z1, which averages just over 4100 players.
