Things have taken a bizarre turn at Starbreeze. Overkill’s The Walking Dead publisher has had its Stockholm office raided by Swedish authorities investigating allegations of insider trading. This comes after Starbreeze had filed for insolvency due to low sales and lack of revenue.
According to an article at GamesIndustry.biz, one person was arrested, and authorities had seized computers and documents as part of an investigation into a “suspected gross insider breach in Starbreeze.” The company itself “is not the subject of any suspicion,” according to Ann Charlotte Svensson, Starbreeze’s investor relations chief. “The event does not affect the company of the ongoing business reconstruction.”
Even if this arrest doesn’t affect the company directly, this is a not exactly the news you want for a company trying to regroup and find investors. One has to wonder if future content is in jeopardy for Overkill’s The Walking Dead, and the fate of the other projects that are in development.
