As we reported earlier this week, Techland is bringing Dying Light 2 to E3 next month, but one thing the team is NOT working on is a movie adaptation of the zombie games.
In response to yesterday’s release of the Sonic trailer, which was subsequently torn apart by, well, pretty much everyone, the official Dying Light Twitter account threw a little shade.
“It’s a good day to be a video game that’s not being made into a movie,” the team tweeted.
The tweet was actually a quote-tweet of a recent article on Gamesradar, confirming their report from back in March that Techland is not actively working on a movie at this time.
“There were some talks about it,” the game’s Lead Designer Tymon Smektala told the site, “but with movies it’s never an easy process. I remember I was involved in some of those conversations but it was never really this huge thing that started really happening. There were some ideas about potential scripts, scriptwriters, and how this could look, but I don’t think it’s time yet. I would rather see a movie about Dying Light 2, which I think is infinitely more interesting.”
Techland CEO Paweł Marchewka added a little never-say-never quote of his own, “We wouldn’t let someone independently do whatever they want with the brand and end up with a rubbish B movie or TV show. But if one day, let’s say, a producer or someone comes to us with a great idea then maybe. But right now we’re not actively looking. We want to make Dying Light 2 the best game for Dying Light players. And there’s only so much time we can spend doing other stuff.”
