Konami Files Trademark Application For ‘Silent Hill’ In Canada

Published

on

Now I know this seems rather mundane, this is still exciting. Konami has filed a trademark application for Silent Hill with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office that is unrelated to Panchinko or Pachislot machines.

Now, it’s worth noting that the trademark for Silent Hill in Canada was set to expire this December. So, Konami’s just covering their bases, right? The trademark does pertain to video games, after all.

Yes, that just might be the case in this instance. But, given that the franchise has had a big pile of nothing over the last five years or so (including the failed Silent Hills with Hideo Kojima that we’re still lamenting), this is still an opportunity for cautious optimism.

And, with the original Silent Hill celebrating its 20th anniversary earlier this year (check out Michael’s retrospective, while you’re at it), maybe Konami finally decided that it’s time to revisit a franchise that so dearly needs a new entry?
