Frictional Reflects on ‘Amnesia: Rebirth’ Five Months After Release; Already Working on Next Project

Published

on

Frictional Games returned to form with Amnesia: Rebirth last year, and five months later, they’re reflecting on the game and more. In a new post on their website, not only does Frictional reflect on the decisions made with Rebirth, but they’ve also announced that their previous title, 2015’s SOMA, has cracked the 1 million units sold.

“We passed the milestone some time ago but we just haven’t gotten around to announcing it until now,” says the post. “Reaching the one million milestone once again shows that our games have a really long tail and the way we like to interpret that is as a seal of quality and that our games receive a strong push over time through word of mouth.”

As for Amnesia: Rebirth‘s sales, Frictional says that the game has sold “more than a hundred thousand copies” across all platforms and PC. Much like SOMA, the team is confident that Rebirth‘s sales will pick up with future sales, combined with “a bigger update” that they’re currently working on that they will announce “shortly”.

The post also delves into the team’s reactions to the reviews and talk of the game, which also ventures into spoiler territory. So, if you haven’t played Rebirth, you might want to exercise caution when reading.

Lastly, Frictional mentions in passing that they’re already at work on their next project. “Looking to the future we are truly hyped. The project of developing Rebirth has really laid the organizational groundwork for how we as a studio can work moving forward and we have just initiated production on the next game (which has now had tons of pre-production time during Rebirth) and we’re kicking off pre-production on a second project as we speak.”

Amnesia: Rebirth is available now on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. And check out our take on the game, too.

WB Games and Rocksteady didn’t exactly have the best result with Batman: Arkham VR, but publisher Oculus Studios and developer Camouflaj (who worked on Marvel’s Iron Man VR) are looking to give it a go with Batman: Arkham Shadow for the Meta Quest 3.

Launching “late 2024“, there’s not much info on the game at the moment, though via the Summer Game Fest X account, we’ll be seeing more from Arkham Shadow when Summer Game Fest rolls around on June 7. The announcement trailer for Batman: Arkham Shadow does provide a little teaser with its description, stating “Gotham City is in danger. And you’re the only one who can save it.”.
