‘Friday the 13th: The Game’: Co-Creator Reveals More Additional Content They Never Got to Make

Published

on

To recap, an ongoing legal battle between Sean Cunningham, director of the original Friday the 13th, and Victor Miller, writer of the film, has put a temporary hold on the Friday the 13th franchise altogether, and Friday the 13th: The Game became one of the victims of those legal issues back in 2018. Essentially, any additional content was swiftly killed off.

One of the biggest bummers there is that the Jason X version of Jason, along with the Grendel spaceship map, was in the works at the time, content that can sadly never be produced.

What else did we *almost* get? Gun Media‘s Wes Keltner, all these years later, has taken to social media to share some additional content that was killed off by Friday‘s legal woes.

Here’s some more of the content the team was “forced to stop making”…

Slumber Party
We did have plans for a “Slumber Party” clothing pack for F13. It was all the counselors in sleepwear attire. I actually setup a real life 1800 phone number that worked like an automated phone sex line. You could call it IRL. It had a pre-recorded message of our counselors saying silly sexy stuff like those dumb commercials from the 80’s and 90’s. It would have been fun. These assets were in the code, but the judge ruled that it wasn’t “marketably viable”. Meaning it needed to pass console certification, and it wasn’t ready for that. So it might have looked done, but not in the eyes of the court.

Prom
We also planned a “Prom Pack” which would also include some props in game. We wanted to turn Crystal Lake into prom night. Tuxes, dresses, dance floor, that type of thing. We were modeling the dance floor like the one from the ship in Part 8. Even talked about turning the bird bath into a punch bowl, but allowing Jason to still use it as a kill spot.

Paranoia
Yes it was a new game mode. Kinda similar to Among Us. Everyone spawns as counselors. No Jason. You have to find the Part 5 mask. Then you can become Jason. We discussed forcing the player to have to “hide” to change back and forth. Perhaps the armoire/closet thing. The player could be killed if in counselor mode. If killed they drop the mask on the ground for the next counselor to pick up and become Part 5. We were building new escapes for this game mode that required 2+ counselors to escape. Like holding open a gate, etc. It had moments of fun, but needed more work.

Closing Thoughts
I felt enough time has passed to share these things with you. I know they are bittersweet. Some will lament, some will think they are cool ideas, some will be angry. I understand that anger, I feel it too. But I wanted you all to know that we loved this franchise and this game. We had big ideas for it. Ideas that we thought ya’ll would think were fun, engaging, and rewarding. We wish it would have worked out differently.

Keltner adds, “This is only a few things. But I wanted to see how everyone reacted before diving in more.” He also re-shared the “Paranoia” teaser, which you can check out below.

Upcoming Narrative Horror Title ‘Still Wakes the Deep’ Getting PS5 Physical Version

Published

on

Physical media fanatics can rejoice when it comes to The Chinese Room and publisher Secret Mode’s upcoming narrative horror game Still Wakes the Deep. Alongside the digital version of the game that’s set to launch on June 18 on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series, PlayStation owners will also be able to snag the physical version of Still Wakes the Deep on the same day.

Described as a welcome update for console players “whose greatest fear is the death of physical media,” the Still Wakes the Deep physical edition will be available from online and retail stores in North America and Europe. No word on if the Xbox Series will be getting the same treatment.

Sadly, there doesn’t appear to be any additional goodies with the physical disc. But, given that this guarantees you’ll have a copy of Still Wakes the Deep that you can pop into your console and play without the need to download it again, that’s a small price to pay.

Still Wakes the Deep takes place in 1975, where disaster has struck the Beira D oil rig off the coast of Scotland. You are one of the oil rig workers on the Beira D rig, fighting for his life through a vicious storm, perilous surroundings, and the dark, freezing North Sea waters. All lines of communication have been severed. All exits are gone. And something has snuck on board, leaving you to not only restore function to the rig, but also deal with the unknowable horror.

And keep an eye out for the upcoming mini documentary on Still Wakes the Deep, which is scheduled to arrive around April 30th.
