[Video] Check Out This Fan Remake of ‘Silent Hill’ Running in Unreal Engine 5
As is often the case, it’s the fans who come to the rescue when a game franchise needs them the most. Much like what we saw earlier this week with a fan-made update to Dino Crisis‘ Regina, a group of fans have decided to take on the task of remaking Konami’s classic Silent Hill using the power of Unreal Engine 5.
Per DSOGaming, a group of devs known as Codeless Studio have put together some footage of their work remaking the original game in Unreal. Sadly, while we’re all secretly hoping for an actual release, according to the team, Codeless Studio does not plan to release this project to the public. Instead, however, we can just dream our restless dreams as before.
The pre-alpha footage shows off Harry Mason roaming the fog-covered streets of the eponymous Silent Hill with some basic gameplay mechanics thrown in. The video ends just as Harry discovers the corpse hanging from the fence in the alleyway.
It’s not all hopeless for fans. After all, Keiichiro Toyama, the creator of Silent Hill, is hard at work with his team at Bokeh Game Studio creating Slitterhead. While not quite Silent Hill, the game does contain plenty of body horror and shades of John Carpenter’s The Thing, as well as music by Silent Hill composer, Akira Yamaoka.
And of course, there are those lingering rumours that Konami is working on reviving the series. You take what you can get, as they say.
Big props to RelyOnHorror for finding this one!
